54% of school districts have contracted NCTA for 20+ years
NCTA’s school-based physical therapists and physical therapy assistants support students’ access to and participation in educational environments (i.e. hallway, classroom, playground, cafeteria, transportation, and managing stairs/ramps) through addressing their physical and motor functioning that impacts academic performance and school participation.
Areas assessed can include a student’s muscle strength, endurance, range of motion, joint mobility, balance and coordination, gait, postural control, motor planning, and transitions between activities. Our therapists also examine a student’s seating and positioning, mobility, and any need for adapted equipment or assistive technology to support access and student success. Our therapists use a variety of service delivery models to meet a student’s needs including direct instruction with the student and consultation/collaboration with educational team members and parents to generalize skills across environments.
